Delete Your ChefUp Account

ChefUp ("we", "our", "us") is operated by Headwater Labs. This page explains how to permanently delete your ChefUp account and all associated personal data.

How to Delete Your Account from Within the App

You can delete your account at any time, directly from the ChefUp mobile app:

Step 1. Open the ChefUp app and sign in.

Step 2. Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation bar.

Step 3. Tap Settings.

Step 4. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.

Step 5. Confirm the deletion when prompted. Your account and personal data will be removed immediately.

How to Request Deletion by Email

If you cannot access the app or prefer to make a manual request, email us at hello@chefup.io with the subject line "Account Deletion Request". Please include the email address associated with your ChefUp account so we can verify and process the request.

We will action verified deletion requests within 30 days.

What Data Is Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed from our systems:

Your account credentials (email, password hash, AWS Cognito user record)
Your profile (display name, dietary requirements, allergies, family member profiles)
Your pantry contents and pantry history (items added, removed, and the reasons recorded)
Your saved and generated recipes
Photos you submitted for ingredient scanning
Voice input transcripts associated with your account
Subscription identifiers tied to your account in RevenueCat
Push notification tokens registered to your device(s)

What Data Is Retained, and Why

Data	Retention	Reason
Anonymised, aggregated analytics (e.g. screen views, feature usage)	Indefinitely	Cannot be linked back to you once your account is deleted; used to improve the app.
Crash reports (Sentry)	90 days	Required for debugging stability issues. User identifiers are removed when the account is deleted.
Encrypted backups	Up to 30 days after account deletion	Backups are rotated on a 30-day cycle. Your data is purged from backups within this period.
Records required by law (e.g. payment receipts, tax records)	As required by applicable law	UK and EU tax authorities require us to retain financial records for up to 6 years.

Third-Party Services

Some data may be held by third-party processors. When you delete your account, we issue corresponding deletion requests to:

AWS Cognito — your authentication record is deleted immediately.
RevenueCat — your subscriber identifier is removed.
OpenAI — submitted images and voice transcripts are not associated with a personal identifier on OpenAI's side; they are processed transiently for ingredient detection and parsing.
Firebase Analytics — analytics data is anonymised and cannot be linked to you after deletion.
Sentry — your user identifier is scrubbed from future crash reports.
